“HONG KONG BLUES” - A CELEBRATION OF CHINOISERIE &

“BRIGHTEN MY DAY” - TRIO OF CHEONGSAM’S

Introducing a brand-new series of prints uniquely designed and created which can be ordered as framed prints or canvases.  The first is “Hong Kong Blues” featuring Hong Kong’s famous icons blended with the ever-gorgeous chinoiserie patterns.  The second, “Brighten My Day”  embraces the individuality of the traditional Cheongsam by incorporating bright, neon colours to reflect the individuality of each dress.

Chinoiserie derives from the French word “chinois” or “Chinese” and is the European interpretation of Chinese and East Asian style. It first became very popular in the 18th century as trade between Asian countries and Europe grew.  Did you know it also began with tea drinking?  Drinking tea was the height of fashion for ladies of good taste and money and required an appropriate chinoiserie mise en scène.

I’m in love with all things chinoiserie, albeit with a more modern vibe. This style represents a “toned down” chinoiserie and suits many decors without overpowering the space.

The cheongsam has transformed over the centuries from a loose-fitting dress to a more tight, figure-hugging, thigh-split design you see today.  My inspiration for this series started with the traditional bold colours used and blending them with asian patterns giving them each a story of their own.

Both of these new prints would make stunning and unique birthday or leaving gifts.  If you’d like to own or gift one of these gorgeous prints, just email me for details and pricing at debbyleedesigns@gmail.com.  You can view all the Hong Kong Blues prints here or the Brighten My Day prints here.
